It's easier for me to cut kindling if I use a rock as a chopping block. I figure this is okay since I am using a bitty hatchet. I am just thankful that I made have reached a new level in survival. It is humbling to figure out your own heat source for the season. My father had told me that mountain people spend the winter contemplating and keeping warm. I can understand that cutting firewood is almost a full time job.
